Seeking a fresh start, the Keane family moves to a Tudor manor outside Littleton, New
Hampshire — a house built by the enigmatic Mr. Goodpasture and tended by its watchful
caretaker, Marshall. Almost at once, Lyana is drawn into visions and a swift, fatal illness, while
twelve-year-old Zach senses the house itself is alive with a secret.
When Zach inexplicably steps into an ancient world from the top of a staircase, he befriends a
captive boy named Akolo — servant of a temple that holds a god, and a power that imbues
objects that change history. The family's fate has been entangled with Akolo's for twenty-five
centuries.
The full truth is staggering: Marshall, Mr. Goodpasture, and Akolo are one immortal man, and
Lyana is his hundredth-generation descendant. To break the curse, two halves of a broken
stone must be reunited across time — and someone must give their life. What begins as a

be reunited. The cost is blood and self-sacrifice: Marshall gives his life to set the Keanes free. The family is restored, the curse is broken, and Marshall is reunited at last
with Esme. The house is rebuilt by the community; Lyana is miraculously expecting again — and an ancient boy's story is only beginning.
